The Trailhead: A Gateway to a Mesmerizing Natural Wonderland
Located in the Grands-Jardins National Park in Quebec, the Mont-du-Lac-des-Cygnes trail is about 9km round trip and it is considered difficult with an elevation gain of 480m.
Leaving from the small village of Saint-Urbain, turn on route 351, also called "The Mountain Road", the drive is about 17km until you get to the parking lot & trailhead. There are plenty of signs along the way and this trail can be quite busy during high season.
After checking in with the park staff, make sure you take a picture of the trail map at the beginning of the hike. It's always good to have a copy of it on your phone :)
There are many trails to choose from in this area. The trail that I picked was called "Sentier du Mont-du-Lac-des-Cygnes" and it took me around 4:30-5hrs to complete the trail. I stop a lot along the way to take photos so I am not the quickest hiker!
Enveloped in Mystical Forests and Ethereal Vistas
Right from the start you will get some magnificent views of the valley and the road below. There are plenty of spots for great photos during the first couple of kilometers on the trail so make sure you have your camera out and ready!
Most of the trail is in the forest after that, with occasional views of the peaks higher up and even some via ferrata adventurers climbing the mountains.
The most impressive views are definitely at the top, everything was so green!
Allow yourself to take a well-deserved break somewhere along the boardwalk. Make sure you pack in everything that you take out of your bag!
Wildlife
Host to a myriad of flora and fauna, the Mont-du-Lac-des-Cygnes trail has a vibrant and diverse ecosystem. Lookout for the arctic-alpine mountain vegetation and the deer tiptoeing through the verdant landscapes. You might even catch a kaleidoscope of vibrant bird species gracing the sky above.
